Cruise ships are passenger ships used for pleasure voyages, the voyage itself and the amenities of the ship are considered part of the experience. This has been the purpose of cruise ships since before the Titanic ship.

The practice of cruise vacations grew gradually out of the transatlantic crossing tradition, which despite the best efforts of engineers and sailors into the mid-20th century, rarely took less than about four days. In the competition for passengers, ocean liners added many luxuries such as fine dining, and well-appointed staterooms some of which were most famously seen in the Titanic, but also available in other ships.

There are many different types and models of cruise ships to choose from when booking a cruise holiday, it can sometimes be confusing to decide which type of ship to choose when they all offer different things. After choosing a location, most people tend to go for the big cruise ships which have a large amount of luxury facilities on board, although this can be enjoyable it is not to everyone's taste. Some passengers prefer to be aboard a smaller, more compact cruise ship.

To help people choose their perfect cruise ship there are a lot of information websites such as Cruiseshipcenters.com which give detailed information and news about many different cruise companies and sometimes specifications of their fleet. Websites such as Choosingcruising.co.uk offer detailed information about cruise ship ratings and reviews. This type of information is very useful when choosing a cruise ship for your vacation.

Cruise companies spend millions on building a new cruise ship, even a reconditioned ship can cost over one hundred million alone. This explains why the companies go through so much trouble to get the interior looking and feeling as luxurious as possible for each and every passenger.

From high quality restaurants, casinos, spas and Olympic sized swimming pools cruise ships are able to accommodate it all. Due to their size and tremendous weight they are able to hold all of these facilities and up to six thousand passengers. Each passenger has full access to the facilities available while on the cruise.
